Butanone, also known as ethyl methyl ketone, is an organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)CH2CH3. This colourless liquid ketone has a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of acetone. It is produced industrially on a large scale, but occurs in nature only in trace amounts. It is partially soluble in water, and is commonly used as an industrial solvent. It is an isomer of another solvent, tetrahydrofuran.

Mainly for use as a solvent and production of methyl methacrylate (and from that PMMA) as well as bisphenol A. Familiar household uses of acetone are as the active ingredient in nail polish remover and as paint thinner.

Phenol (chemical formula: C6H5OH, PhOH), also known as carbolic acid and hydroxybenzene, is the simplest phenolic organic compound and is a colorless needle-shaped crystal at room temperature.
